NBU teaching visit to Serbian HMEIs realized in May 2022

The Project Management Board met online on 1st of June to discuss and plan the key project dissemination event (WP 7.7) entitled Music/ian is Present, to be held on 12-17 September 2022. The event will address the third project objective – promotion of more engaged and culturally responsible musicians committed to the civil society, from diverse perspectives. It will include a bootcamp for P1-P3 students with public presentations of student projects (WP 7.6) from 12-16 September, a scientific conference with roundtable presentations by invited speakers from P1-P9, and a Public debate as key dissemination event on 17 September with participation of all partners, in addition to the representatives of governmental, regional and EU institutions, as well as distinguished public figures in the sphere of music and culture.
NBU teaching visit to Serbian HMEIs realized in May 2022

From May 11th to 20th 2022, six teachers from New Bulgarian University (P5) came to their first live teaching visit to music academies in Belgrade (P1), Novi Sad (P2) and Kragujevac (P3). During their stay in Serbia, Simo Lazarov, Emil Traichev, Tsanimir Baychev, Natalia Afeyan, Pavlina Velichkova I Margarita Marionova Krusteva-Stoichevska offered lectures, workshops and Q&A session in the field of digital and entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to over 100 music students of the BA and MA study programs reformed during the DEMUSIS project, as well as to 13 students of two master programs introduced at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade (P1) in the framework of the project. In addition, the teaching visit included a live follow-up to teacher training in project fields, previously held online, due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

On 12 November 2021, the first students graduated from the innovative, entrepreneurially oriented master study program Applied Research in Music (PRIMA) introduced at the Faculty of Music University of Arts in Belgrade in the framework of the DEMUSIS project in 2020/21. In their master theses the students demonstrated the implementation of the acquired applied knowledge in the field of music entrepreneurship, social engagements of musicians and understanding of digital technologies, in designing their original music projects addressed to specific social groups as new audiences.
Mantautas Krukauskas’ teaching visit to Serbian HMEIs on 12–20 December 2021

Mantautas Krukauskas, Associated Professor from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius (P6) and Head of LMTA Music Innovation Studies Centre, carried out the first live teaching visit to Serbian academic partner institutions in the DEMUSIS project on 12-20 December 2021. Over 50 students of BA and MA modernized studies from the Academy of Arts University of Novi Sad (P2) and the Faculty of Philology and Arts University of Kragujevac (P3) and new MA study program Music Direction from the Faculty of Music University of Arts in Belgrade (P1) took part in lectures, workshops, demonstrations and discussions on innovative practices in music, ambisonics and spatial audio, sound design tools and other related topics in the field of digital skills for musicians and music production. His visit also included a live follow-up to teacher training conducted online in December 2020 at all three music academies, which included lively discussions and exchange of knowledge and good practice in teaching and work in sound art.

The Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade (P1) took part in the Third Forum of Music Academies from China and Central and Eastern Europe held online on November 4th 2021, presenting the international collaboration of the Faculty of Music in the context of COVID-19 pandemic.
The backbone of the Faculty of Music activities in the field of international collaboration during this time were realized in the framework of the DEMUSIS project. In her presentation, Dragana Jovanović, head of the Center for International Cooperation, particularly addressed actions and outputs produced in teaching (WP4.3) and teacher training (WP3.1), as well as in music performance (WP4.3).
First student placements in Mad Head Games

The first group of 6 students from national academic partner institutions in Belgrade (P1) and Kragujevac (P3) completed their practical placements in gaming company Mad Head Games (P10) on September 6–20, 2021. Four students of new master study program Applied Research of Music (PRIMA) at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade (P1) and two students of updated master study program Music in Media, introduced and modernized in academic year 2020/21, had an opportunity to test and broaden their knowledge on gaming industry, particularly in the field of music and sound production for video games. In accordance with ongoing measures to control the spread of disease COVID-19 in Serbia, the student practice was carried out completely online.

Outcomes of the DEMUSIS entrepreneurial bootcamp for music students “Music – Here and Now” were presented at the 24th International Pedagogical Forum for Performing Arts held in Belgrade, Serbia, on 1-3 October 2021 in a hybrid format. The paper "Cross-curricular Learning in Higher Music Education: Entrepreneurial Bootcamp for Music Students Music – Here and Now”, co-written by Ivana Perković, Ivana Vuksanović, Milica Petrović and Dušanka Jelenković Vidović, aimed at presenting the first bootcamp for music students held in Serbia with the objective to draw conclusions regarding key skills important for the professional musician in Serbia in the third decade of the 21st century.
DEMUSIS project eligibility period extended for 12 months

The European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) approved the request for the extension of the DEMUSIS project eligibility period by twelve months, until 14 January 2023. The extension of the project eligibility period will allow smooth implementation of project activities, modified or postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in Serbia and EU.

Teacher training in the fields of music entrepreneurship and social engagement of academic musicians was held on 19-23 April 2021 at national academic partner institutions P1-P3 in an online format, due to the COVID-19 lockdown, travel and social gathering restrictions in Serbia and EU. Fifteen teachers and staff members from P1-P3 were trained by teachers from The Royal Conservatoire The Hague (P4) during five daily 2-hours sessions, as part of the preparation of the Entrepreneurial bootcamp for music students in Serbia Music – Here and Now, scheduled for May 2021.
P1-P4 Distance music performance using LoLa equipment held on April 13, 2021

The first live jazz session of students and teachers of the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade (P1) and the Royal Conservatoire The Hague (P4), was realized on April 13, 2021 using LoLa (Low-latency) equipment for distance music performance.
Teachers and students of Jazz and Popular music Department, Faculty of Music in Belgrade Bojan Cvetković (jazz piano), Stefan Stehlik (jazz guitar) and Luka Ignjatović (saxophone) were joined by their colleagues from Jazz department of the Royal Conservatoire The Hague Ramy Dielemans (double bass) and Borut Rampih (drums) in one-hour jazz session.

The call for application for teachers of national academic partner institutions for participation in the online teacher training led by the Royal Conservatoire The Hague (P4) was closed on Thursday April 15th, 2021. Overall, 18 teachers from national higher music education institutions in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Kragujevac (P1–P3) applied to be trained for the role of coaches in entrepreneurial bootcamp for music students Music – here and now to be held in Serbia in May 2021 as part of the project activity 4.3. The five-day online teacher training will be held from 19th to 23rd of April 2021.

The teacher training by the Royal Conservatoire The Hague (P4) for the entrepreneurial bootcamp for music students will be realized on April 19–23 2021, in an online format. It is the final part of project activity 3.1 – Teacher training for curricular changes and LLL courses.
At least 12 teachers from national higher music education institutions (P1-P3) will be trained for the role of coaches in the bootcamp in Serbia “Music – here and now” to be held in May 2021 as part of the project activity 4.3.
DEMUSIS Project Technical Implementation Report assessed positively and approved

The Technical Implementation Report on the DEMUSIS project progress, submitted on 31 August 2020, was assessed positively and approved by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency of the European Commission. The assessment looks at the partnership's performance as regards the efficient implementation of the project.

18 February 2021 - Meetings
The second annual Project Management Board meeting was held on 10-11 December 2020, with the participation of all Board members, management and contact persons of partner institutions, work package chairs and administrative staff. Due to the unfavorable epidemic situation related to COVID-19 in Serbia and EU, the meeting was held online instead at the University of Kragujevac (P3).
The meeting covered updates on the project, realization of project activities in 2020 according to the work packages and plans for 2021. Dealing with all the constraints imposed by the coronavirus outbreak was particularly considered, along with discussions on mitigating its effect on project implementation in 2021.
Annual Quality Assurance Group meeting held online on 8 December 2020

Annual Quality Assurance Group meeting with the external evaluator was held online on 8th December 2020.
In a friendly and constructive atmosphere, the Quality Assurance Group’s (QAG) annual work was reviewed. The QAG chair introduced the Annual Report for 2020, while the members of the Group presented and discussed individual short Quality Monitoring Reports for deliverables completed in 2020.
The updated Project Quality Action Plan was subsequently adopted by the Project Management Board at the annual meeting 10-11 December 2020.
Teacher training at the New Bulgarian University realized 21-22 December 2020
12 January 2021 - Event
Teacher training for curricular changes and LLL courses at national academic partner institutions (P1-P3) was implemented in an online format on 21-22 December 2020 by teachers from the New Bulgarian University (P5). During the intensive training, 21 teachers and members of staff from the Serbian HMEIs were trained by 10 teachers from the Bulgarian academic partner. The training covered topics related to main project thematic fields: digital competencies including distance music teaching methods, music teaching using Moodle platform and distance learning with examples and good practices, music entrepreneurship and music in society, including rising awareness of the role and visibility of professional musicians in society and social commitment of musicians.

Teacher training for curricular changes and LLL courses at national academic partner institutions (P1–P3) was realized in an online format on 2–18 December 2020 by teachers from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (P6). During the two-week training, 27 teachers from the Serbian HMEIs were trained by 6 teachers from Lithuanian academic partner. The training covered topics related to main project thematic fields: digital competencies and distance learning, music entrepreneurship and social engagement of academic musicians.
Teachers and staff trained for distance learning
11 January 2021 - Event
In the framework of project activity 3.2 of the work package 3 Staff training and development of teaching resources, 29 teachers and staff members of the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade (P1) were trained for the use of the distance learning platform. Due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in Serbia, the three-day training was held online, on the eLearning platform for distance learning, from 14th to 18th of December 2020. After the general part of the training, further individual consultations or work in smaller groups on specific problems in music distance teaching and learning was offered, to be held by the end of December 2020. The training was led by the Head of the University of Belgrade Computer Centre prof. dr Slavko Gajin.

Annual Project Management Board will be held 10-11 December 2020, with the annual Quality Assurance Group meeting held previously on 8 December 2020. Due to COVID-19 epidemic crisis in Serbia and EU, along with travel restrictions and limit on gatherings, the meetings will be held in an online format instead at the University of Kragujevac (P3), as planned initially.
Master academic studies at P2 and P3 updated

The Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad (P2) and the Faculty of Philology and Arts, University of Kragujevac (P3) had updated master academic studies with new elective courses introducing digital and entrepreneurial skills and knowledge, developed and adopted within the framework of DEMUSIS project. Therefore, the master academic study program in Music Performance at the Faculty of Philology and Arts in Kragujevac now includes a new elective Psychology of Communication, while master study programs Music and Media, Music Pedagogy, Musicology and Ethnomusicology at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad has been upgraded with elective course Methods of music education in digital environment – MEDIG.
WP3.1 Teacher training Call for Applications open at national academic partner institutions

The Call for Applications for national HMEIs teaching staff training by Lithuanian Academy for Music and Theatre (P6) is currently open at P1-P3. The teacher training by EU academic partner institutions P5-P6, for curricular changes and LLL courses (WP3.1) in the fields relevant to the project’s aims and objectives (music in digital environment, music entrepreneurship and marketing, distance learning, music production and music direction), will be organized in an online form by the end of 2020, due to Covid-19 induced mobility restrictions.
New Master Study Program Applied Research in Music launched at P1

The new master study program Applied Research in Music starts at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade (P1) in the fall semester 2020/21.
It is the second new master academic study program developed at this Serbian HMEI within DEMUSIS project in 2019/20 and accredited by the National Entity for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education in 2020. The academic EU partner institutions – The Royal Conservatoire the Hague (P4), The New Bulgarian University (P5) and Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (P6) – were strongly involved in development of the study program, with non-academic partners P7-P9 actively participating in defining student competencies and learning outcomes from stakeholder’s perspective.
The call for student applications was open on 26-27 October, entrance exam scheduled for 30 October 2020, with the studies starting in November 2020 after student enrollment.
The main objective of Applied Research in Music study program is to educate students of an innovative profile, in accordance with dynamic changes in 21st century in the field of music. The study program is conceived in a way to ensure acquirement of knowledge, competencies and skills essential for students’ inclusion in contemporary creative industries, working in both public or private, commercial or non-profit sector. Graduated students will therefore build an awareness of the importance of balance between academic research and business and commercial sector’s needs.
LLL Courses accreditation postponed to October 2021

The Call for accreditation of Programs for professional enhancement of teachers, youth counsellors and experts, issued by National Institute for the Promotion of Education, is postponed to October 2021. The accreditation of LLL (life-long learning) courses in the areas of music entrepreneurship, music in digital environment and social engagement of musicians by National Institute for the Promotion of Education, is one of WP5 (LLL courses) milestones.

On September 17th 2020, an extraordinary Project Management Board meeting was held online to discuss the follow-up actions to Technical Implementation Report, overview of current activities and plans, and make arrangements of further actions, particularly realization of teaching and training mobilities in Autumn 2020. The online meeting was attended by PMB members and members of administrative staff.
Online courses realized in Spring 2020

The pandemic and measures it imposed on teaching and learning meant also the sudden and unavoidable transfer to online teaching and learning, pushing in that way some project activities forward time-wise, in comparison to the initial timeline (courses were to be implemented in third project year, September-December 2021). In consequence, preparation of online courses, teacher training for use of distance learning platforms, and implementation of first online courses were done simultaneously in Spring 2020 at the national music academic institutions P1-P3, and to the great effect. Overall, three new and five modernized courses were implemented at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade (P1), the Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad (P2) and the Faculty of Philology and Arts, University of Kragujevac (P3), with 70 students and 26 teachers involved.
The courses were realized during the lockdown of universities from March to June 2020, using Moodle-based distance learning platforms developed at these national academic institutions, along with other communication applications and tools, such as Zoom platform, YouTube channels, Trello boards, Google Classroom, Google Meet, etc.
Distance learning platforms developed and in use at national HMEIs

National academic partners – University of Arts in Belgrade (P1), University of Novi Sad (P2) and University of Kragujevac (P3), have developed or modified, and put to use distance learning platforms based on Moodle, open-source online learning platform. The Faculty of Philology and Arts of the University in Kragujevac installed and implemented eUčenje [eLearning] distance learning platform in April 2019, the University of Novi Sad introduced a new distance learning platform eLab which was modified and put to use at the Academy of Arts in Spring 2020, whereas University of Belgrade offered the University of Arts in Belgrade in Spring 2020 to use eLearning portal, adequate for answering the needs of music teaching and learning.
Due to Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, online courses were prepared and implemented at the three academic partner institutions almost simultaneously with the adoption of distance learning platforms.
Digital and media laboratories at P2 and P3 upgraded

Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad (P2) and the Faculty of Philology and Arts, University of Kragujevac (P3) upgraded their digital and media laboratories with equipment purchased through Public procurement and tendering procedure in July 2019 and Repeated Public procurement and tendering procedure for remaining lots in November 2019. The new equipment was set-up and used for realization of new and modernized courses in academic year 2019/20. The upgrade of digital and media laboratories was accompanied by upgrade of infrastructure, such as the new network and electricity installation at P3.

DEMUSIS project Technical Implementation Report, marking the first reporting period was submitted on 31/07/20. The Technical Implementation Report consisted of completed Technical Report e-form, with accompanying annexes and attachments filled in and dully signed: Budget table, Declaration of honour, Table of achieved/planned results, Dissemination and Exploitation Plan, Quality Assurance Plan with External evaluator’s interim report, and signed Request for 2nd Prefinancing.

New master study program Music Direction at P1 to start in October 2020

The new master study program Music Direction at the Faculty of Music of the University of Arts in Belgrade (P1) acquired accreditation of the National Entity for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education on July 6th, 2020. The call for student applications will be open in September, with the studies starting in October 2020.
Music Direction master program, one of the two to be introduced through DEMUSIS project, aims at shaping music professionals skilled in diverse creative processes and various aspects of production of music. Aims of this study program are coordinated with the requirements of modern creative industries in the domestic and international context, as well as with the strategy of development of the use of digital technologies. The study program Music Direction is correlated with worldwide contemporary art and pedagogical trends and is comparable to similar programs at foreign higher education institutions. The study program and curriculum was developed in 2019/20 at P1, with an active participation of EU partner institutions – the New Bulgarian University (P5) and Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (P6).
Mad Head Games joins project consortium

Gaming company Mad Head Games, new stakeholder partner in the field of IT industry, joins project consortium at the position P8, following EIPIX Entertainment withdrawal from the partnership due to change in ownership and staff reduction.
Mad Head Games’ main role in the project will be to offer practical placements for students of national higher music education institutions, presenting them with the possibility to apply and test their theoretical knowledge in the production and implementation of sound and music in video games. The added value of new partner’s participation in DEMUSIS project will therefore be in giving the opportunity to future music professionals to work in creative gaming development environment, which particularly aligns with Mad Head Games continual investment in supporting local development community.
New courses aiming at enhancement of music students’ digital competencies launched in Spring 2020

National academic partner institutions – Faculty of Music of the University of Arts in Belgrade, Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad, and Faculty of Philology and Arts, University of Kragujevac, launched in February 2020 5 new courses focused at enhancing digital skills and knowledge of music students at bachelor and master academic study level. New courses – Introduction to digital notation, Contemporary notation and advanced digital notography, Basics of digital literacy for musicians and Basics of working with Digital Audio Workstation – DAW (P1), Methods in Music Education in Digital Environment – MEDIG (P2) and Music in digital environment (P3), were realized both using new equipment obtained by two Public Procurement Procedures in 2019, and online, using developed university distance learning platforms and the variety of online applications and tools.

The Faculty of Music of the University of Arts in Belgrade underwent an institutional quality enhancement review MusiQuE – Music Quality Enhancement, European independent accreditation and external evaluation body for music, affiliate of European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education – ENQA and registered on the European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR), dedicated to the continuous improvement of the quality of higher music education across Europe and beyond. As a result, the Faculty of Music in Belgrade has become the only higher education institution in country and region reviewed positively by MusiQuE, confirming in such a way high level of alignment with European standards of higher music education.
The Institutional review of the Faculty of Music of the University of Arts in Belgrade, concludes an important part of activities in project work package 1 – Preparation and Analysis (WP 1.1) which sets the foundation for further project activities by conducting both internal and external assessment of the existing programmes at national HMEIs and to develop new modernised curricula by putting the greater focus on digital media and entrepreneurship.
Results of DEMUSIS based research presented at LATIMPE digital platform

Research paper entitled Distance Learning in Higher Music Education: Case Study of Academy of Arts, Novi Sad, based on the results of the research conducted in the scope of DEMUSIS project, was presented on 13-14 May 2020 at LATIMPE (Learning and Teaching in Music Performance Education) conference Students as researching artists - music, technology and musicianship by Ira Prodanov Krajišnik. The aim of the paper was to share results of research on the students’ and teachers’ attitude toward distance learning, and to present the first phase of distance learning offered at the Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad (P2).

New master study program Applied Research in Music ready for national accreditation

Project Quality Assurance Plan updated and Quality Monitoring Reports submitted

Quality Assurance Group has updated the Project Quality Assurance Plan, adopted it and made public at in March 2020. The Plan was updated to include details on internal evaluation responsibilities and internal quality procedure documents.
In addition, Quality Monitoring Reports for activities and deliverables in work packages 1 (Preparation and Analysis), 2 (Upgrading of Methodology), 6 (Quality Assurance), 7 (Dissemination and Exploitation) and 8 (Project Management) were submitted, adopted and made public.
Teacher training cancelled

New digital laboratory installed at P1

The new digital laboratory is successfully installed and adequate digital infrastructure developed at P1’s Faculty of Music in Belgrade. The laboratory is equipped with new computers with hardware, MIDI
keyboards and music software estimated as essential for introducing new digital and entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to study programs based on conclusions of realized study visits to EU partners, study of needs of national HEIs and dialogue with stakeholders.

Repeated Public Procurement and Tendering Procedure completed

lots is completed, with awards allocated on November 25, 2019.

In the scope of WP1 – Preparation and Analysis, MusiQuE review team, composed of distinguished international specialists particularly for the purpose of P1 external quality enhancement review, visited the Faculty of Music of the University of Arts in Belgrade (P1), from 27th to 30th October 2019. The 2.5 days site-visit was conducted as a part of the MusiQuE quality enhancement institutional review during which the 5 members review team met members of the Faculty of Music deanery and management team, representatives of academic and institutional bodies, teachers and administrative staff, as well as students, alumni, stakeholders and representatives of the profession.

Students enrolled to modernized study programs

In October, students have been enrolled to modernized study programs at national HMEIs, thus completing the first activity in WP 4 – Implementation of reformed and new study programs. Current study programs are reformed by embedding the digital competences and entrepreneurial skills into the competence sets of music graduates at various levels. Furthermore, new compulsory and elective courses were introduced to study programs at P1-P3. Previously, all curricular changes were adopted by relevant institutional bodies. They also aim to cause the mindset change enabling students to adopt entrepreneurial approach and learn not only how to use current digital technologies in their main field, but also how to be a life-long learners in contemporary environment.
DEMUSIS on Annual Meeting for International Relations Coordinators in Prague, 19-22 September 2019

DEMUSIS project was presented on the 2019 Annual Meeting for International Relations Coordinators (IRCs) which took place at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (Czech Republic) from 19 to 22 September under the title "The Pink Elephant: Reflections on the Future to Transform the Present", in the framework of the AEC-Strengthening Music in Society (SMS) Project supported by the Creative Europe Programme. The project presentation by Dušanka Jelenković Vidović, project administrator and international relations coordinator at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade, on Sunday September 22nd was followed by a fruitful discussion moderated by Payam Gul Susanni, SMS WG3 on Entrepreneurship at AEC.
